King Taco's original location now a historic landmark

CYPRESS PARK, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- The Los Angeles City Council on Tuesday voted unanimously to designate the original King Taco in Cypress Park as a Historic-Cultural Monument.

The restaurant got its start as a taco truck in 1974 by Raul and Maria Martinez.

Its success helped them open in Cypress Park just six months later in 1975.

King Taco now operates 22 restaurants across Los Angeles and San Bernardino counties.

The designation now allows the city to temporarily halt demolition of the site for up to a year while preservation options are reviewed.
