FedEx, Staples, LAZ Parking cut 500 jobs as new round of layoffs hit SoCal

LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- Hundreds of people across the southland are headed to the unemployment office.

FedEx, Staples and LAZ Parking have cut 500 jobs, the L.A. Times report. The courier service will close its Victorville and Palm Springs facilities next month, gutting 116 positions.

"For several years, we've been undergoing a network transformation -- called Network 2.0 -- to improve how we pick up, transport and deliver packages across the U.S. and Canada,'' a FedEx representative told Eyewitness News in a statement Thursday. "This initiative aims to simplify service with a 'one van, one neighborhood' model, enhancing efficiency and customer service. We're committed to supporting impacted employees through job placement, assistance, relocation aid, or severance.''

All workers were notified of the layoffs months ago and some were offered other roles within the company, according to FedEx.

FedEx projects roughly $2 billion in annual savings by the end of 2027 due to the company's overhaul, which has also affected workers in other counties

Staples will also lay off employees at a fulfillment center in La Mirada.

LAZ Parking, which operates near LAX and Ontario International Airport, is letting go of nearly 250 workers.

The layoffs come as the U.S. lost 23,000 jobs last month.

Eyewitness News has reached out to Staples and LAZ for comment, but have not heard back.
