Tim Pulliam
Pulliam joins KABC/ABC 7 from our sister station WTVD/ABC 11 in Raleigh-Durham, North Carolina, where he was a reporter and anchor. Tim is also a fill-in correspondent for ABC News One, a network affiliate service where Pulliam's national news reports air on ABC stations across the country.
In 2021, he was nominated for an Emmy Award for his reporting at WTVD on a story garnering national attention: The Shooting Death of Andrew Brown, Jr.
Tim is the recipient of three Salute to Excellence in Journalism trophies, presented by the National Association of Black Journalists (2020, 2016, 2011).
In 2017, Tim Pulliam was named 'Reporter of The Year' by the Associated Press and the Radio Television Digital News Association of the Carolinas (RTDNAC).
His television career began in 2006 in Wilmington, N.C. and later in Columbia, S.C. where he was a reporter and anchor. While in Columbia, Tim was honored with a local Media Champion Award from the Richland One Community Coalition for his investigative coverage of synthetic drugs and its impact on young people. He was also president of the South Carolina Association of Black Journalists.
Tim's reporting adventures also took him to Florida where he broke several crime stories and covered high profile court cases, such as the verdict in the George Zimmerman trial. In 2015, his news reports on the Michael Dunn murder trial were featured in an award-winning HBO documentary titled "3 1/2 Minutes: Ten Bullets." The film examined the life and murder of unarmed Jacksonville teenager Jordan Davis. The 17-year-old was Congresswoman Lucy McBath's only child. Pulliam appears in the film, which is also available on Netflix.
Pulliam is a graduate of Winston-Salem State University, a historically Black college. In 2019, the University named him among the top 40 alumni under the age of 40. In 2022, the RTDNAC honored Pulliam with a First-Place education award for his broadcast story on the legacy of his alma mater.
Pulliam earned his master's degree from Johns Hopkins University.
In 2016, Tim covered the historic opening of the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture in Washington D.C., where he interviewed the museum's lead architect and Durham-native Phil Freelon, and both Oprah Winfrey and Stevie Wonder. Read the story here.
When Tim is not covering the news of the day, He serves as an adjunct professor for the Hussman School of Journalism at UNC-Chapel Hill. His hobbies include physical fitness, exploring new restaurants, and traveling throughout the country and abroad.
