Irene Cruz
Irene Cruz is a weekend morning anchor and general assignment reporter for ABC7 Eyewitness News. She joined the station in June 2022.

As an Irvine native, Irene has always held Southern California close to her heart throughout her entire career. She graduated with a B.A. degree in Literary Journalism from UC Irvine and a scholarship award from the Asian American Journalists Association (AAJA).

Prior to ABC7, Irene anchored the 10 p.m. newscast weeknights and reported for WOAI-TV in San Antonio, Texas. She was nominated for two Emmys, including a report regarding the risks of deepfake technology. Before Texas, she anchored and reported for KXTV-TV in Sacramento, California, covering everything from the Northern California wildfires to the potential Oroville Dam failure to protests at the state Capitol.

Irene started her career at KYMA-TV in Yuma, Arizona. In the Desert Southwest, Irene anchored the 5 p.m., 6 p.m. and 10 p.m. newscasts, produced shows and reported as a multi-media journalist who shot and edited her own stories. She covered topics such as border security, immigration and agriculture.

Irene is the proud daughter of Filipino immigrants and comprehends Tagalog fluently. When she's not reporting, you can find her immersed in many of her hobbies: 3D printing, piano, singing, writing science fiction and attending Comic-Cons. She also adores her two Maltipoos, Kricket and Wrigley, who have both traveled with her across the country as she pursues her dream of being a journalist.
